Seasonal guide from 1 - 100 for Melee chars.

Note. This guide is made from the perspective of a melee solo only player with no tribe. This guide touches on some of the things that should help people who can't or won't join parties for leveling and to log some of the ass backwards designs still in the "early" game of your char.

Another season another way for me to find the least annoying way to level a fist or blade to 100.

1 - 40. Straightforward enough follow the quests and you will get to 40, no major issues there.
40 - 70. Straightforward if a bit grindy, I suggest getting the armor from the rascals quest before tackling the portal scroll quest so you even survive the run to the witch, the armor also helps with tanking the lizard captains.
70 - 100. This is where the bullshit begins. You can get the shaman hunting quest but either your stats are completely in VIT by this point or you won't solo the shamans yet, so you go grind. Orc warriors give decent xp but takes a while, you can technically work on these until 80, after 80 the xp they give is trash which means in theory you should be able to grind the skeletons in wasteland since you know, the quest actually guides you there.

Oh wait the skeletons are red, which means they give no xp time to move west of Laziel tower to grind badflies. If you have patience you can grind badflies completely until 100 but since that isn't very interesting lets do it until 90 where we get Army of the Dead part one and the skeletons turn purple.

So you get the quest and you start killing skeletons, but wait what is this, each skeleton gives you about 1.5% of your xp bar in total at that level. Which means that grinding skeletons for the army of the dead quest becomes even more tedious because for some ass backwards reason, they not only don't turn purple at 70, as logic dictates since the quest pretty much points you there, but once they do turn purple, the xp gain is complete trash. Looks like its time to go back to the badflies since they still give 4 - 3 % of your xp bar, are easier to kill and they drop better items.

100+ .

You go east lad and you hope to god you have money to buy gems for blast fist and blast blade for atleast the first 5 levels, becuase you have no consistent way to farm the gems outside of Islands early on. Blast fist and blade speed up the leveling process incredibly.

Things that need to change to make melee leveling less tedious, because some people dislike being forced to make a first char a mage just to farm up for your other chars:

Skeletons in wasteland need to become purple at 70, double the amount of xp the give on hit or even triple it if necessary, because why make the shaman hunting quest direct you to the wasteland if you can't actually gain any xp from the grunts before 90.

Make more consistent ways to gain gems in the early game, maybe the toxic frog quest should give you 5 seph gems per completion or maybe the shaman hunting quest should give you gems as a reward.

And before some wiseguy mentions swamp hill, bite my shiny metal ass. Swamp hill mobs hit too hard and too fast for you to even think about farming them for seph gems before you are properly geared.

Bloods call questline. Remove it or make it actually worth doing. When you actually get the first part of the quest at lvl 60 you have absolutely no way to kill the butterfly boss in the swamp at that level and the reward is a few gems and some xp.

Level 70-100 there are actually a variety of places you can get levels from...

  • Some are intended for group based leveling.
  • Some are intended for power leveling.
  • Some are intended for single player leveling.

In group based leveling areas, such as Wasteland, you will of course find trash mobs that are used to not only populate the area, but make it a bit harder to simply stroll right through without a care in the world. In Wasteland, these are the Skeletons (minus the Shamans of course). They aren't intended to be used for effective leveling, the Shamans are. Although they do become part of a quest line that can unlock various instances & higher exp rewarding areas.

In power leveling areas (such as Tiaz), monsters will of course hurt you (the person being power leveled) very badly... but they offer large exp rewards where you can pretty much AFK while somebody else levels you.

Then we come to the single player areas, these of course aren't going to offer up the same kind of EXP rewards as group & power leveling areas for the sole reason that they are much easier to coast through. Thus the Badlies.

I do agree that AOE spells speedup leveling, quite a bit. It's unfortunate that melees don't get these skills without Masters. However, there are lots of ways outside of PvP Islands that can reward you gems. To start off Karebear Island, collecting Leni boxes from Rampao for leni to buy gems.

I think it may nice to have more master skill books be able to be purchased for courage medals.

We'll take a look at the difficulties of these 2, it's been awhile since they have been touched.
